Project KIDS ~ Battered Womens' Shelter Drives

Project KIDS was organized to help teach children the value of being kind & generous! Our goal is to provide needy families with food, clothing & other essentials, as well as show them the love of God! Our intent is to be the light that sits on a hill that cannot be hid & in doing so, hope to reach out to as many people as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

October/November 2011 ~ Our most recent project, Battered Women's Shelter drive, was an extreme success! The shelter is in desperate need of funds, personal care items, plastic utensils, toilet paper, fans, etc. Without proper funding, the women & children who seek refuge in the shelter will go without the things they need to function on a daily basis. With only 21 rooms containing 60 beds & a 45 day maximum stay, these women & children are severely limited in the time they have & the resources they have access to. Imagine trying to gather yourself & get your life in some kind of order, to find some sense of normality in that short time. The shelter employees are all amazing. They do all they can to help the residents with the resources they are given. They hold fundraisers & try to raise awareness so people understand what these families go through, but they still need help! We CAN help!

From Sunday, September 25, 2011 through Monday, October 24, our church, partnered with Project KIDS to hold a drive for the Battered Women's Shelter! Our church members & many people in our community & beyond, were beyond generous in giving monetary donations, as well as clothing, food & supplies to help! Here's a complete list of items given:

Cash - $527.17 used to purchase supplies
Clothing - 16 large garbage bags
Shoes - 1 1/2 large garbage bags
Handbags - 10 designer handbags
Food - 3 boxes of canned & dry food, 75 frozen lunches, 10 packs of instant milk
Supplies (donated & purchased) -
toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, kleenex, deodorant, hand sanitizer, wipes, powder, lotion, bottles, sippy cups, toys, pretzels, fruit snacks, cheese crackers, juice, infant formula, diapers, infant layette sets, q-tips & books
Gift bags - 90 age appropriate bags containing the supplies mentioned above
We are very blessed to have been a part of such an exciting event, to be able to help others in need & to be able to provide a wonderful learning experience! This event was organized, along with Project KIDS, by one of our young members, Alaina Walker, as a part of her pageant participation in a Community Involvement project, but it blossomed into SO much more! We are thankful that Alaina chose to involve Zion Field for this wonderful project! We hope to do it again!

December 2011 ~ We were fortunate enough to be able to bless the kids at the shelter with clothes & gift bags full of toys! They were so excited to receive gifts. It's truly a blessing to be able to help others!
